The first day of summer begins with the fifth annual Reading Challenge, which attracts more and more participants every year. The event offers fun reading assignments and those who complete them successfully, get a chance to receive a gift!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

About the project<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The Reading Challenge is organised in cooperation between the libraries of Vilnius, Kaunas, Klaip\u0117da, \u0160iauliai, and Panev\u0117\u017eys counties, as well as the Lithuanian Library for the Blind. The participants of The Reading Challenge are growing in numbers. In 2019, the challenge was accepted by 16 390 participants of all ages and resulted in almost twice the numbers than in 2018. Last year the challenge was completed by 10 339 participants who read nearly 75 000 books. It is especially exciting that this year Panev\u0117\u017eys County Gabriel\u0117 Petkevi\u010dait\u0117-Bit\u0117 Public Library has become the main coordinator of the organising team and will lead this year’s challenge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Five Tasks for the Reading Challenge in 2020<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The Reading Challenge invites readers of all ages to participate, from the youngest to the most experienced. Children, parents, and even grandparents are actively involved. Participants can read books from their home bookshelves, borrow them from the library, read e-books, or listen to audiobooks. This year the quarantine had some positive outcomes as it has significantly broadened the ways participants can read books. Each participant of the Reading Challenge can choose books in different formats, however, it is important that they correspond to the tasks provided by the organisers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The tasks are the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To read a novel written by a Northern author;
To read a novel which has a number in its title;
To read a novel about the nature;
To read a novel about friendship;
To read a verse novel.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Those who successfully complete the challenge have an opportunity to win a lottery which offers special prizes: a tablet, a bean bag chair, or an instant camera. Most active participants will receive books from a Lithuanian publishing house \u201cBaltos lankos\u201d, and everyone who registers and completes all the tasks will receive seed paper bookmarks to grow their own plants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The organisers hope that the event will connect the readers across Lithuania and encourage participants to become true book lovers!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
